Before you begin…

Gather your materials:

– something to write in and something to write with

Choose a physical location where you can be with, and listen to your body freely.

Manage your distractions as you are able:

– Consider what tends to distract you and minimize those distractions during this time. Consider turning off reminders and notifications on your devices; inform people of the time you need for this practice, close your door. etc.

When you feel ready to begin…

Get present: 

– Take a few deep breaths in and out. 

– Remind yourself that whatever unfolds during this time is honorable.

Now that are you present, let’s begin…

Body awareness is how you recognize where your body is in space, and it can support you with deepening your mind-body connection. This activity aims to support you with cultivating a consistent practice of being aware of your body, and documenting your awareness. 

The first activity is a brief sample one, followed by another one that gives you 24-hours to complete it.

Activity 1: The Body Listening Moment

  • Take a moment to look around and name where your body is physically located at in this moment. Be as specific as you can.
  • Look at your body and find something to be grateful for, and thank that part of your body.
  • Move & stretch different parts of your body and pay attention to where you feel tension, tightness, discomfort or are aware of something else. 
  • Acknowledge each part of your body that is communicating with you – your way. 
  • Capture what you notice.
  • Thank yourself for taking a moment to do this.

Activity 2: The 24-Hour Body Awareness Journey

Over the next 24-hours, pay close attention to your body while you are navigating throughout your day.  Acknowledge your body when it communicates to you and jot down the information that stands out the most. 

At the completion of the 24 hours, review your notes and choose the one thing that you will consciously integrate into your life that could enhance your body awareness. Get present:

Take a moment to feel the effects of your practiTake a moment to breathe and thank yourself for participating in this activity.

Feel your feet and take another breath.ce. Gently return to your stressful thoughts, notice what is different.

An Invitation to Integrate

Consider how you may cultivate a consistent body awareness practice. For example, can you start and/or end your day with a 5-minute body awareness check-in? What would support you best?
