Move Your Body

Move Your Body

The intention of this lesson is…

The intention of this lesson is…

to encourage you to move your body to the rhythm of your own beat and your favorite dance songs.

How to prepare

How to prepare

Before you begin…

Gather your materials:

– list of 2-3 songs that make you want to dance

– grounding object (like a photo or image, crystal or stone)

– favorite beverage

– anything that helps you feel settled in your body (like aromatherapy)

Choose a physical location – indoor or outdoor – where you feel comfortable and have space to move freely.

Manage your distractions, as you are able to:

– Consider what tends to distract you and minimize those distractions during this time. Consider turning off reminders and notifications on your devices; inform people of the time you need for this practice, close your door. etc.

Activity

Activity

When you feel ready to begin…

Get present:

– Take a few deep breaths in and out.

– Find a posture that feels most comfortable to you.

– Remind yourself that whatever unfolds during this time is honorable.

Let’s Move!

  • Play the first song.  Allow yourself to be moved by the music. Refrain from judging yourself, and just be with what is.
  • Play the second song. Notice what is happening with your body and allow yourself to get a little more free with yourself, and just keep moving your body.
  • Play the third song and do whatever feels good to you.

Regrounding Moment

Regrounding Moment

Take some deep breaths, soak in the experience, and drink some water (if needed). Allow yourself to receive whatever information is coming through and pay attention to where you are experiencing sensations in your body and extend some love.

An Invitation to Integrate

Consider how you can be intentional about integrating dance moments into your life. For example, at the beginning of the day play a song that you love and have a dance party, or create a virtual dance moment with a loved one!
